Don't Shop At Currys

I don't shop at Currys (or PC World because they are guilty by association). I don't shop there because I bought an oven from them and paid extra to have it fitted. They fitted it incorrectly. This was discovered by a Hoover engineer who visited after the front panel of the oven was burned off. The fitters had neglected to ensure that the oven was fitted correctly - the missing piece was a 400mm by 400mm ventilation hole beneath the oven. The absence of ventilation was causing the oven to operate at higher temperatures than expected, which was dangerous.

I raised this issue with Currys and it took almost a year for them to accept that they hadn't done a good job. When they did accept that they had done a poor job of installing the oven, the best offer they could give was to refund my installation fee. They also incorrectly stated that the oven would be safe to use and told me that they had checked with Hoover. When I checked with Hoover they said they had given no such assurance.

This isn't about things going wrong - it happens. I have had "conversations" with BT and T-Mobile recently when things have gone wrong - but they put things right. Currys have no desire to put things right.

So I don't shop there any longer and I hope you won't either.

Below is a list of purchases that I once would have turned to Currys or PC World to fulfil - and purchases that friends and family would have made had I not convinced them otherwise. Over time, I'm sure this will stack up to be a huge list and I hope that it will help to convince companies like Currys that you need to do the right thing by your customers.

If this article has helped to convince you not to buy something from Currys, please let me know what you bought, how much it cost and where you bought it so I can add it to the list.
