Search Engine Optimisation Quiz
Saturday, 26th May 2012
When I started sending sarcastic responses to self-proclaimed Search Engine Optimisation experts, I didn't expect to be doing it for long. What I didn't count on was the sheer number of people who seem to have bought an "SEO Franchise" whereby they are given a standard SEO Expert website and a list of email and web addresses for them to start pestering.
The problems are many-fold, but the obvious two are that franchisees have absolutely no training and the website they are supplied is absolutely terrible.
So before you start marketing your excellent search engine services, see if you can answer these really basic questions, which are all based on the errors and mistakes in the Site Wizard mark-up.
- The body element is on line 225 of the HTML page and the first line of content is on line 301. Why is this a problem for SEO?
- There are 14 external scripts in the head element of the HTML page. What is wrong with this?
- If you have keywords such as, "affordable", "proven", "packages", "multiple" and "experts" where else should these words appear?
- How many warnings and errors should you get when you validate your web page using the W3C Validator?
I haven't posted the answers here, because I don't want any cheating (and I don't really want to help these SEO spammers) - but if you would like me to take a look at your answers, please use my contact form ensuring that you number your answers to match the questions.
