Kill An Unrecognised Device Connected To Your BT Homehub

I had some connection issues with my BT Infinity Broadband, so before I phone up tech support and use FizzBin on them I decided I had better have a poke around to see what was going on.
Before I got started, I reset the Homehub and the box-on-the-wall. This wasn't just because I predicted that it would be the first piece of advice I would get from tech support, it was also because I had no intention of sitting in silence while I looked at the issue. So with my hub restarted and Therapy? cranking up 'Living In The Shadow Of A Terrible Thing' I logged in to the admin pages at bthomehub.home (this displays a web page hosted on your Homehub).
Interestingly, there were two devices connected to the Homehub, the netbook I was using and an unrecognised device. Given that I had just restarted the hub, and all other computers, games consoles and network ephemera were all switched off, I decided to poke around this unknown device. After a double-check that this device wasn't one I owned, I decided to kick it off the network. After a poke around on the Internet on search engines and the BT community forums all I could find were people declaring that "you cannot kick a device off of the Homehub". This didn't sound plausible to me, so I opened up the admin pages and poked around for a few minutes. Who'd have thought it... I found out how to kick off a device.
The option can be found by navigating these options:
- Settings
- Advanced Settings
- Continue to Advanced Settings
- Home Network
- Scroll down to find the offending device and click on it
- Double check to see if you recognise it
- Click on Delete
Now this won't 100% solve the problem - because the device could re-connect. What it does mean is you can see if any of your devices are suddenly booted off the network, at which point you can decide to rename the device instead. If the unrecognised device continues to connect even if you have booted it off, you need to change your wireless key and update it on all of your own devices.
