These days, social media is rather fragmented. Each individual has to decide where they want to hang out, whether it be Twitter, Facebook, MySpace (it still exists), Google+ or any one of a massive list of potential online haunts. Quite often, the selection is based on where your real-life friends are hanging out, so if they are mostly on Twitter, you'll join up there to get involved in the conversation, or if they are mostly on Facebook then that is where you'll head.
