Firefox Takes Too Long To Start
Monday, 12th April 2010
If you've noticed that Firefox is taking a bit too long to start recently (I'm using 3.6.2) - you may find this fix very useful. Thanks to HaggleLad for this handy fix.
One major cause of slow startup is that Firefox remembers lots of bits of information from the last time you used it. It can remember session information, opened tabs, browsing history, cookies and form information - it uses this to start you "from where you were last time". This is a clever feature, but one that I don't particularly need.
Turning off this feature will speed up Firefox's start up time. In my case, from ages, to almost no time at all. Here's how you do it.
Step 1
Open Firefox and type "about:config" into the address bar. You may get a warning message, if you do - promise that you'll be very careful.

Step 2
Menu-click on the page and select "New" > "Boolean" - as per this screen shot.

Step 3
Type in "browser.sessionstore.enabled" into the popup box, and press "OK".

Step 4
Select "false" from the options and press "OK".

After performing these steps, close Firefox. The next time you open Firefox, you will notice it is much, much faster!
